This feature produces extra smoke for additional flavour in your food.

You can switch on the “Super Smoke” for foods that you think needs a little enhanced smoky flavour.

You won’t attain that flavoring in your normal stove top grilling for sure.

Now you have a gist of what a super smoke on Traeger is and its benefit.

Let’s dive deep into the things that you need to know if you want to use this technology more efficiently.

What is a Super Smoke Technology in a Traeger Grill?

A Super Smoke Technology in Traeger grills was introduced when they launched their WiFire controlled series of pellet grills as mentioned earlier.

Though, not all grills with WiFire controller have the super smoke mode.

This option essentially is used to enhance the smoky flavour that is instilled into the food being grilled.

It works between the temperatures of 165°F to 225°F.

What happens when you set up your Traeger on Super Smoke mode?

In this technology, at low temperatures between 165°F and 225°F, there is limited fuel allowed into the firepot.

That in turn, lets the pellets smoulder more than they would when exposed in the high temperatures.

Paired with its precision fan control function, it produces maximum smoke within the grill.

The smoke lingers in there for a while, flavouring the food with an exquisite smoky taste.

Then the smoke exits through the rear exhaust vent.

And that makes all the difference when you cook with the super smoke mode on.

4 Simple Methods to Get More Smoke out of Your Traeger Grill

Here are a few ways you can still get more smoke out of your Traeger grill and enjoy a good strong smoky flavour in your food.

With the below mentioned tips, you can still get higher smoke with your existing Traeger model that does not have the super smoke feature in it.

1. Give More Time to Smoke

The simplest and the most effective way to get more smoke from your pellet grill is to give the smoke more time to infuse the smoky flavour onto the meat.

This can be done by just lowering the temperature by around 20 to 50°F.

Usually, you need to do this at the beginning of the cooking or grilling process.

You can do it after about 15 to 30 minutes or to an hour, depending on what you are cooking and your preferences.

For example, a brisket as per its size, might need an hour or two.

On the other side, a fillet of halibut or salmon may only need few more minutes.

You can leave it in there to smoke and acquire that beautiful smokey ring.

Once the outer surface is firm and formed, no more smoke can penetrate the meat.

After you finish smoking as desired, then you can turn the heat up and cook the rest of the meat or just leave it to cook on “low & slow”.

2. Use Best Quality Wood Pellets

You can try using different brand wood pellets for smoking in your Traeger grill.

Some hardwood pellets are great for all types of cooking and food such as the Signature blend pellets from Traeger.

While some pellets are especially great for attaining that strong smoky flavour.

If you need that flavour then probably try using pellets made of strong smoking woods such as Mesquite or Hickory.

3. Use Pellet Smoker Tube

You can also try using a pellet smoker tube to achieve that little extra boost.

You need to fill up the pellet tube smoker with the wood pellets and set it alight.

This can be used to attain additional smoke in your grill or cooking chamber.

Such pellet tube smoker can constantly add smoke for up to 5 hours depending on the current situation.

I highly recommend to buy a good quality and reliable pellet tube smoker.

Ideally, a quality pellet tube smoke is made of stainless steel with good ventilation pores for keeping the smoke consistent.

They are mostly not that expensive either.

4. Make Sure Lid is Closed During Cooking

You should also ensure that the lid of the grill is not getting opened frequently.

You should open the lid only for an emergency while the meat is smoking.
